Sheffield General Cemetary given Green Flag Award

Congratulations to Sheffield General Cemetery, sometimes described as "an outdoor museum", on being given the Green Flag Award.

This means that it is recognised as a well-managed park/green space, setting the benchmark standard for recreational outdoor spaces. According to Sally Puddifoot, the landscape conservation manager for the Sheffield General Cemetery Trust, the award is a recognition of 30 years of work.

Works at the cemetery funded to the tune of £3.8m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund's Parks for People Programme finished last year. The cemetery, with burials from 1836 to the 1950s, was conceived as a "garden cemetery". Perhaps we should arrange to have an Outdoor Service there?
