Becoming a Church of Sanctuary
As we journey to becoming a Church of Sanctuary, we plan to introduce various activities over the coming months for members of SAPL to contribute to the process. A constant action will be challenging some of the myths repeated in the media by informing ourselves of the actual situation of asylum seekers and refugees. Our aim is to provide a ‘myth busting challenge’ most weeks.
For the first challenge we are focussing on the asylum housing system.
• Can you guess how much people living in hotels are expected to survive on per day? It is meant to cover basic essentials.
Is it £7.49 per day or £1.42 a day?
• Do they sleep in beds, bunks, or sofa beds?
• How much profit are the companies who provide asylum accommodation expected to make over the duration of their contracts with the Home Office?
Is it around £10 million?
Around £400 million?
Or around £750 million?
The answers will be available in next week’s newsletter.
