St Andrews Church Sheffield, Psalter Lane, Church Sheffield - Our Neighbourhood

The church is located in the leafy Victorian suburb of Nether Edge, Sheffield. At one time the area was the home to some of Sheffield'swealthy steel barons, and Shirley House, next to the church (housing not only our caretaker but also the church and vicar's office, other rented offices and many community activities downstrairs), was home to one of these, too. Many of the larger houses are now subdivided into flats or converted to hotels, offices and care homes, but many houses are still family homes. Nether Edge is an official Conservation Area.

Within the Anglican parish you can also find many students - particularly in the terraced houses towards Hunters Bar - and many members of the Asian community towards Sharrow-Abbeydale Road.

As a church, we are happy to welcome and work collaboratively with all the people of our parish and to seek the common good. We naturally regard Christian faith and discipleship as very important things, but we seek to relate to people of other faiths or persuasions in a respectful, unpressurized way.

The Nether Edge Neighbourhood Group brings together the residents of this area in issues of common concern and good neighbourliness.
