St Andrews Psalter Lane Church

Press Release

New Garden of Remembrance and Memorial created in Nether Edge, Sheffield

A new community Garden of Remembrance and Memorial has been created at St Andrew's Psalter Lane church in Sheffield. This was dedicated on Sunday 5th November by the vicar, the Revd Canon Nick Jowett, after several years of preparation.

The Memorial replaces one that commemorated all the people from Nether Edge who were killed in the World Wars, 103 of them in the First World War. This had been in St Andrew's church, Sharrow which was demolished after it became unsafe in the late 1990's. When the Anglican congregation joined with the Methodist church on Psalter Lane, it was decided to create a new memorial to remember not only those killed in war, but others, whose ashes may be laid to rest in the Garden of Remembrance.

A new Westmoreland slate tablet has been placed at the side of the church facing Cherrytree Road in an area which has been cleared and planted to create the Garden of Remembrance.
