St Andrews Church Sheffield, Psalter Lane, Church Sheffield - Junior Church

Children learn the faith in three ways in our church: through the seriousness of worship; through learning in Junior Church groups; and, perhaps most important of all, through the fun and involvement of being valued members of the community.

Junior Church groups meet during Sunday morning worship on three or four Sundays each month. They are divided according to age group, and use singing, art, drama, story telling etc in their learning. Once a month at the end of the morning service the children show to the rest of the congregation what they have been doing in their groups. There are shared lunches, picnics, outings etc for families with children through the year.

All ages are together for the morning service on the 2nd Sunday of the month, and here we are often joined by children and young people from our Scout, Cub, Guide, Brownie and Beaver groups, who may contribute to the worship in the form of prayers, presentations, drama, readings etc.

The Baden Powell groups sponsored by the church meet at St Andrew's Hall on St Andrew's Road

Children sing in the church choir and receive musical training following the syllabus of the Royal School of Church Music. They practice on Friday evenings 5.30-7.00 pm and contribute to Sunday morning worship every week.

There are some special services and events in the year where we try to do something creative, involving both adults and children: these include the Christingle Service, the telling of the Passion story on Palm Sunday, the Children's Service and Activities on Good Friday, Harvest Festival of Mothering Sunday.

We take child protection issues very seriously and follow the guidelines laid down by the Diocese of Sheffield.
